We pull up to the gate of Gabby's sprawling ranch house a while later. Macy lets out a low whistle as we roll down the driveway lined with towering oaks. "Dang. This place is sweet."

"Isn't it gorgeous?" Silvia smiles as she parks. "I love coming out here."

A minute later, Gabby's truck rumbles up behind us. She hops out and waves us in. "Come on in, y'all! Hope you brought your appetites."

As soon as we step inside, the mouth-watering aroma of Mexican spices fills my nose. My stomach rumbles loudly. Macy laughs and pats my shoulder. "Down, boy. We'll eat soon."

Gabby leads us into the dining room and I stop in my tracks. She wasn't kidding about a feast. The long wooden table is piled high with glistening steak, homemade tortillas, guacamole, nachos dripping with queso, and spicy stuffed peppers. It's a hungry cowboy's dream come true.

"Consuela really outdid herself," Gabby says proudly. "That woman is an angel. Dig in, everyone!"

I don't need to be told twice. I haven’t eaten anything since a sandwich at lunch, and I’ve already burned all the calories from my afternoon gardening work.

As we fill our plates, laughing and rehashing the highlights of Gabby's incredible ride, Gabby goes to the kitchen and brings out a case of beer.

After loading up my plate with seconds of the tender carne asada, I lean back in my chair with a satisfied groan. "That was amazing, Gabby. My compliments to Consuela."

"Best dang Mexican food I've ever had," Macy agrees, popping a cheesy jalapeño popper into her mouth. She turns to Gabby with pleading eyes. "You've gotta get me that tortilla recipe. I'd kill for homemade ones like these."

Gabby laughs and takes a swig of her beer. "I'll see what I can do. No promises though — Consuela guards her secrets like the crown jewels."

The sound of music filters into the room from the living room, a lively tune with a country flair.

Gabby must've put it on when she went to grab drinks. It suits the festive mood.

I glance around the table at these amazing women who've welcomed me into their lives. Silvia, so poised and self-assured. Macy, vibrant and always up for anything. And Gabby, equal parts tough and tender. I still can't quite believe I'm so lucky to have the affection of all these women.

"Earth to Alex," Silvia teases, waving a hand in front of my face. "Are you in a food coma over there?"

Caught staring like an idiot. Smooth. I duck my head as heat creeps up the back of my neck. "Uh, just thinking how lucky I am to be here with you ladies."

"Aw, sugar, we're the lucky ones." Macy winks at me over the rim of her bottle. "Cute cowboys your age don't just fall out of the sky, you know."

Silvia and Gabby chuckle their agreement, clinking bottles in a toast that makes me blush even harder. But hey, there are worse things than being flirted with by three gorgeous older women. As I take another sip of soda, warmth spreads through my chest that has nothing to do with the spicy food.
